Trygve Olaivar, the husband of a town mayor in Bohol, has been sworn in as the new undersecretary of the Department of Education (DepEd).
Olaivar, who was appointed by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., took his oath of office on this week at the DepEd-Central Office in Pasig City, with his wife, Candijay Mayor Thamar Olaivar, and their three children in attendance.
Prior to his appointment, Olaivar served as chief of staff to Education Secretary Juan Edgardo "Sonny" Angara, a former senator.
He also previously worked as a political affairs officer for Sen. Ramon "Bong" Revilla Jr.
Olaivar has extensive experience in government, having worked with various agencies, including the Commission on Appointments and the Commission on Elections. He has also served as a consultant to several politicians.
As undersecretary, Olaivar is expected to bring his expertise to help address the challenges facing the education sector.
