Provincial Health Officer Orders District Hospitals to Admit Dengue Patients
The Provincial Health Officer has ordered district hospitals to stop referring dengue patients to Gallares Hospital, citing overcrowding.
Dr. Yul Lopez issued the directive recently, saying the Gov. Celestino Gallares Memorial Medical Center in Tagbilaran City is at full capacity, with wards allocated for dengue patients, including pediatric spaces, filled to capacity.
The majority of dengue patients are young children, contributing to the overcrowding in pediatric wards.
The hospital has been inundated with dengue patients from various towns, straining its resources.
Lopez instructed district hospital chiefs to admit dengue patients within their facilities to alleviate the congestion at Gallares hospital.
As dengue cases in Bohol continue to rise but without clear direction to solve it by the Aumentado administration, Lopez urged the public to take preventive measures, including cleaning their surroundings and wearing protective clothing to prevent mosquito bites.
Dengue is a viral disease spread by mosquitoes, and eliminating breeding sites is key to preventing its spread.
