New Gallares-Cortes Hospital Set to Ease Bohol’s Healthcare Congestion

The new multi-specialty medical center in Bohol is expected to open in June 2025, promising to alleviate overcrowding in the province’s main hospital.

The Governor Celestino Gallares Memorial Multi-Specialty Medical Center, known as Gallares-Cortes, will be the second major healthcare facility operated by the Department of Health in Bohol province.

Dr Miguelito Jayoma, chief of the existing Governor Celestino Gallares Memorial Medical Center (GCGMMC), said the new hospital will help reduce patient congestion in Tagbilaran, the provincial capital.

"Bohol is fortunate to have three nationally-funded hospitals," Dr Jayoma told local media.

The new facility will complement existing hospitals in Tagbilaran and Ubay, thanks to the efforts of Congressman Edgar Chatto, Jayuma said.

The Gallares-Cortes hospital is currently 90% complete, with health officials planning to conduct final inspections before the end of this year.

The project was initiated through legislation by Congressman Edgar Chatto, marking another addition to the region’s healthcare infrastructure.

Once operational, the Gallares-Cortes and the existing GCGMMC will function as separate entities, potentially improving healthcare access for Bohol’s residents.
