SportsEdTV has named Harvey Newton as Executive Director of Weightlifting
The former U.S Olympic and Team USA coach will lead in the development of all instructional content for the fast-growing online sports instruction network. Newton recently worked with SportsEdTV to develop its first series of videos, including HOW TO CLEAN & JERK and HOW TO SNATCH.
“Weightlifting is both a competitive sport and a foundational training activity for all other sports,” said SportsEdTV Co-Founder and Chairman, Robert Mazzucchelli. He added, “Our goal is to create – with Harvey Newton – a definitive video library covering all weightlifting techniques and exercises so that people can learn the sport from a world-class expert. We also want people to learn how to lift safely, so that all athletes, CrossFit participants and strength coaches will have a learning resource they can access anytime and anyplace.”
“SportsEdTV is breaking new ground by offering world-class sports instruction in a free, high-quality video format,” said Harvey Newton. He added, “I have written books on weightlifting, and have coached at the highest levels of the sport, so the opportunity to share what I’ve learned over my years of coaching and studying the best lifters in the world is one I cannot turn down. The SportsEdTV team is dedicated to making sure that coaching details and proper lifting techniques are clearly communicated through the videos by using unique camera angles and graphics. Using SportsEdTV’ s global network, I want to encourage more people to lift, and most importantly, to learn how to lift safely and prevent injury. This network is a game-changer.”
Newton was the Head Coach for the USA Olympic Weightlifting Team in 1984. He was the first national coach for the USA Weightlifting Team from 1981-1984 and was its Executive Director from 1982-1988. Newton was a key member of the NBC Sports Weightlifting Team from 1996-2016 Olympic Games broadcast. He is a frequent speaker about the sport and has written numerous articles and books on weightlifting, a sport for which Newton is considered one of the world’s experts.
