Artificial Intelligence based upon human embryo development marks future of robotics

Dr. Dean Anthony Gratton, a technology futurist and author from the UK has termed a potential new form of Artificial Intelligence, based upon human embryonic development.

The term Artificial intelligence: Embryonic (AIe) has been coined by Gratton to describe an intelligence that can mimic human cognitive development to evolve, learn and adapt to its surroundings.

Gratton’s theorem has its foundations in the work of child psychologists Jean Piaget and Jerry Fodor and uses the analogy of human brain development as that of a computational system.

Gratton explains “This research has been at our fingertips for decades and yet it’s never had more resonance than it does today.

“I want to consider the possibility of plagiarising nature to create true artificial intelligence in an “embryonic” form”, he adds.

“It’s what I have termed Artificial Intelligence: Embryonic (AIe). An intelligence that can mimic human cognitive development to evolve, learn and adapt just like you and I; moreover, any technology must have the capacity to permit it to expand and evolve its knowledge.”

“The reality of where we are right now told me that we require increasingly clever programming coupled with evolving smart technology to realize the possibility of an AIe but I believe it can be done”, Gratton concludes.

Gratton plans to feature his findings in a new book on developmental Artificial Intelligence, to be published next year.
