BOHOL BARANGAY OFFICIALS COULD SEE TERM EXTENSION
The president of the Liga ng mga Barangay (LnB) in Bohol has welcomed a proposal to extend the term of barangay officials from three to six years, saying it would bring stability to local governance.
Ex-officio Board Member Romulo Cepedoza, who heads the LnB-Bohol chapter, expressed his elation over the move, which was announced by House Speaker Martin Romualdez on Friday.
Romualdez, who authored House Bill No. 10747, said the proposal aims to do away with the confusion caused by recent term extensions, poll suspensions, and other laws.
Under the bill, barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan officials would be allowed to serve a maximum of two terms in office, with the next elections set for the last Monday of October 2029.
Cepedoza said the LnB national officials would discuss the proposed bill, noting that the league’s national president is the sibling of one of the co-authors, Cong. Faustino Dy.
The proposal has been welcomed by local officials, who see it as a way to bring stability and continuity to local governance.
