Cong. Chatto Brushes Off Fake News Amid Election Season

Bohol 1st District Rep. Edgar Chatto has dismissed as baseless fake news circulating on social media that he masterminded the suspension of Bohol officials, including Gov. Erico Aristotle Aumentado.

Chatto, speaking on a recent episode of "Newsmakers ug Uban Pa," said people unfamiliar with government operations are more likely to believe false information spread online.

He specifically addressed allegations that he orchestrated the suspension of Aumentado and was preparing a case to suspend former Mayor John Geesnell Yap, who is no longer a government official subject to the Ombudsman’s authority.

Chatto challenged his critics to produce evidence of any ongoing cases against him before the Sandiganbayan and Ombudsman, asserting that there are no pending cases against him in the country’s anti-graft justice system.

"Only those who don’t understand how government works would believe fake news spread online," Chatto said.

Separately, Chatto’s Facebook page has reached 100,000 followers, a milestone he welcomed as a testament to the appreciation of his online content, which focuses on his congressional work and positive messaging.
