A new bishop has been ordained to lead the Diocese of Cubao in the Philippines.
Bishop Elias Ayuban Jr, who is from the province of Bohol, was installed as the head of the diocese on December 3, 2024.
The ordination ceremony was performed by Manila Archbishop Jose Advincula, with Bishop Honesto Ongtioco in attendance. Bishop Ongtioco, who founded the Diocese of Cubao 23 years ago, has now retired and been replaced by Bishop Ayuban.
The installation ceremony, which took place at the Immaculate Conception Cathedral in Quezon City, was also attended by Tagbilaran Bishop Alberto Uy, who served as co-consecrator.
The event coincided with the feast day of St Francis Xavier, the patron saint of missionaries.
Other high-ranking clergy in attendance included Papal Nuncio Charles Brown, Cardinal-designate Pablo Virgilio David of the Caloocan diocese, and Orlando Cardinal Quevido, the bishop emeritus of Cotabato.
Bishop Ayuban’s appointment marks a new chapter for the Diocese of Cubao, which serves a large and diverse community in the Philippines.
