Press Release: Sa gitna ng kaliwa’t kanang ulat ng pagmamalabis ng mga nasa kapangyarihan sa implementasyon ng enhanced community quarantine, nanawagan ang ilang mambabatas sa bagong batch ng mga abogado na paglingkuran ang taumbayan lalo na ngayon may COVID-19 crisis.
Para kay Rep. Ron Salo (KABAYAN Party-list) nariyan ang mga batas upang makamit ang hustisya, kapag di makatwirang tinanggihan ng ospital ang pasyente, napatay sa pamamaril ang taong may karamdaman sa pag-iisip, o kapag napagkaitan ng relief goods o perang ayuda ang sinumang mamamayan.
Ipinaliwanag rin si Salo, na isa ring law professor, na mabisang paraan ang bar exams para masiguro na "competent and ethical frontliners of justice" ang mga abogado to defend our citizens from harm and protect their rights and liberties.
Samantala, pinuri ni ACT-CIS Party-list Rep. Jocelyn Tulfo ang mga concerned citizen na nag-upload ng mga video ng pambubugbog sa isang fish vendor.
"Mariin kong kinukondena ang pambubugbog sa isang fish vendor ng mga tanod at iba pang kawani ng Barangay South Triangle sa Quezon City," aniya.
"Anuman ang kanyang naging paglabag sa enhanced community quarantine, hindi pa rin nararapat ang klarong paglabag sa kanyang karapatang pantao," punto ni Congresswoman Tulfo.
Dahil nakakulong pa rin ang biktima matapos bugbugin ng Quezon City Task Force Disiplina at mga barangay tanod ng Barangay South Triangle, hiniling ni Tulfo sa mga pumasa sa bar exams at sa Public Attorney’s Office na agad tulungan ang fish vendor.
"We call on all of our country’s lawyers to defend the defenseless, including the fish vendor mauled earlier this week in Quezon City," ani Tulfo.
"The barangay chairman should also step aside to let higher authorities conduct their investigation. The Filipino people have no need for barangay officials who abuse their power or consent to abuse of power," dagdag pa ni Tulfo.
Suhestiyon naman ni AKO BICOL Party-list Rep. Alfredo Garbin Jr sa mga bagong abogado na paglingkuran ang kanilang mga pamayanan ng may malasakit at pag-uunawa.
"Understand their circumstances. Seek help because chances are legal woes are but the tip of the iceberg of their crisis. Listen and do so with ears and your heart," payo ni Garbin, na isa ring abogado, sa bar exam passers.
"I also take this opportunity to ask the Supreme Court to enjoin this and future batches of new lawyers to perform community service," ani Garbin, Vice-Chair ng House Committee on Justice.
Puna ni Garbin na mayroong agarang pangangailangan na maturuan ang mga barangay tanod at kapulisan tungkol sa mga "basics of human rights, due process, criminal law, and criminal procedure."
Hiling naman ni Agusan del Norte 1st District Rep. Lawrence Fortun sa mga bagong abogado na maging tapat silang alagad ng katotohanan at katarungan.
"I ask our new lawyers to be steadfast advocates of Truth and Justice because these will guide us through the darkness and cast a piercing light against anyone who abuses power, tramples on the weak, and takes the law into their own hands," ani Fortun.
Kita ni Fortun ang pangangailangan para sa mga bagong batas na magiging panuntunan at sandigan sa tinatawag na "new normal" dahil binago at pinahirap ng COVID-19 ang buhay nga lahat.
"The new normal will require new laws. We urge our new lawyers to contribute their fresh and innovative ideas in the crafting of new pieces of legislation that will ease our people’s adjustment with, and adaptation to, the emerging new normal keeping in mind the continuous preservation of truth, equity and justice ang the protection of the weak and vulnerable sectors of our society," pahayag ni Fortun, isa ring abogado at kasapi ng House of Representatives Electoral Tribunal.
