Drones at the Indian Premier League

Mumbai based drone company Quidich Innovation Labs, is set to deliver some compelling drone shots at the coveted Indian Premier League in 2018. As a company that focuses on aerial cinematography, Quidich has worked on numerous sporting events in the past such as powerboat racing, golf, tennis and soccer as the official drone partner. This will be the second instance of drones being used in the IPL for live broadcast.

Quidich teams will be deployed across all nine IPL venues and will compliment the incumbent ground and cable camera infrastructure. Aerial shots can be viewed in the midst of play, during strategic time outs and even replays among others. Team Quidich has also covered tourist spots at each of the venues. This will be relayed during replays, breaks or during pre and post match discussions.

"Drones have become a part and parcel of live broadcast across the globe. It is indeed great to see India engage aerial technology for live content. We hope to deliver some scintillating shots of the IPL games and in the future hope to see drones being integrated into the decision making framework for cricket" said Rahat Kulshreshtha, Founder and CEO of Quidich.

The adoption rate of drone technology is on the rise in India with several entities from the entertainment and industrial domains looking to engage UAVs to futurize their businesses. However, security and safety issues remain a major concern. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has issued a draft circular in November 2017. Quidich has adhered to all clauses on the draft regulations obtained all necessary clearances from governing agencies namely the DGCA, Ministry of Home Affairs, Ministry of Defence and local police, all of whom have been extremely supportive in expediting the paperwork.

Quidich aims at delivering some scintillating aerial content at the IPL and hopes that other sporting agencies engage drones for coverage and live broadcast going forward.
