BOHOL POLICE WARN OF MOBILE LEGENDS SCAM TARGETING MINORS
Bohol police are investigating a potential ring of scammers using popular mobile game Mobile Legends to defraud minors across the province, authorities said on Monday.
The Bohol Police Provincial Office (BPPO) said at least 13 children in three towns have fallen victim to the scheme, which involves luring minors with promises of a tournament before stealing their phones.
"This is alarming because it’s not just three minors in Baclayon who were victimized, but also five children in Tubigon and five in Loay," said Police Staff Sergeant Protacio Man-on Jr, investigator at Baclayon Police Station.
One suspect, identified as Carlo Cadelina Aguilar from Davao del Sur, has been apprehended. However, authorities believe he may not be working alone.
"The suspect seems very adept at fraud. It’s possible he has accomplices," Man-on added.
Police have urged the public, especially youth, to be vigilant and not trust strangers.
Victims have also been reported in Surigao del Norte and other parts of Mindanao, highlighting the scam’s reach beyond Bohol.
