The provincial government of Bohol has called on local government units (LGUs) and Barangay Livestock Aides (BALAs) to join forces in the campaign to keep the province rabies-free.
The appeal was made during a gathering of BALAs from across the province at the Bohol Cultural Center recently.
The provincial government cited the importance of collaboration between LGUs and BALAs in controlling the spread of rabies, a viral infection that can be fatal if left untreated.
Rabies is primarily transmitted to humans through dog or cat bites, but can be prevented through vaccination of pets and prompt medical attention in case of bites.
The provincial government has pledged to support BALAs in their efforts to eradicate rabies in the province.
Bohol was previously declared rabies-free but lost its status due to reported cases of rabies infection.
To regain its rabies-free status, the provincial government is urging LGUs to implement strategic interventions to control the spread of the disease, including controlling stray animals that pose a danger to both humans and motorists.
LGUs are seen as crucial in addressing the rabies problem, as they can take measures to prevent the proliferation of stray animals in their localities.
By working together, the provincial government and LGUs aim to restore Bohol’s rabies-free status and ensure public safety.
