REOPENING OF FOOTBALL, BASKETBALL
A MUST TO PREP FOR COMPETITIONS htt
I express my appreciation to the IATF for heeding the appeal of the Philippine Football Federation and the local football community for the gradual reopening of the sports dimension of Philippine life, particularly football and basketball.
Allowing players and teams, especially the national teams and training pools, to resume fitness and physical conditioning activities while following recommended health protocols and standards, will allow them to regain their skills and stamina, keep them healthy, and stay prepared for competitions in when things return to normalcy.
I hope the elite individual sports and other team sports that are feasible with required health protocols will slowly open. This is good for the physical and mental well-being of our athletes.
We are all hopeful that in a year or so, things will slowly return to normal and sports competitions will be back.
The resumption of fitness and physical conditioning programs are not just in preparation for competitions that may or may not happen soon, but primarily for purposes of keeping the physical fitness and mental wellness of athletes and providing them that essential social construct and interaction in these times of crisis.
There are international sports calendars that were postponed. This year’s Summer Olympics was postponed by a year. It is anticipated that the international sports calendar will gradually resume. Same with the national sports schedules. (END)
