Tagbilaran’s new city council ex-officio member ready for bigger role

Alberto Puagang, the president of Liga ng mga Barangay in Tagbilaran, has embraced his new role as an ex-officio member of the Sangguniang Panlungsod (SP).

Speaking to Ardy Araneta-Batoy on the "Newsmakers ug Uban Pa" program, Puagang described the transition from barangay captain to a city council role as involving "more tasks with a broader reach". He noted that while there are similarities between his previous position and his current one, the new role extends beyond his own barangay’s confines.

Puagang took over from Sergio Bangalao and will serve until the next barangay elections in December 2025. He has been a barangay captain for 11 years, with his leadership in his community dating back to 2018.

One of the challenges he mentioned was securing funds for local projects. During his tenure as barangay captain, Puagang managed to finance various modest infrastructure projects for his constituents, showcasing his capability to manage broader responsibilities in his new position at the city level.
