Two children killed, father critically injured in Tagbilaran fire
A devastating fire swept through a residential building in Tagbilaran City, Bohol, killing two young children and leaving their father critically injured, authorities said Wednesday.
The blaze, which was brought under control after a two-hour battle, ravaged a 100-square-meter building made of light materials in Purok 1, Barangay Manga, Tagbilaran City, before Manga Elementary School.
The victims, a one-year-old baby boy and a three-year-old baby girl, were pronounced dead at the scene, while their father was rushed to hospital with severe burns covering his entire body, including his head.
The cause of the fire, which started at 8:10pm, was still under investigation by the Tagbilaran Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP).
"We are still investigating the cause of the fire, but we are looking at the possibility of electrical or accidental ignition," said SFO1 Irvin C Bongalos, the lead investigator.
The fire was declared out at 8:30pm, but not before it had destroyed the building and left the family’s livelihood in ruins.
The city government has appealed to the public to be vigilant and to take precautions to prevent similar fires from occurring.
