Fortun supports upgrading of airports to meet global standards

TIME HAS COME FOR DRIVERS TO RESPECT ACCESS OF BIKERS TO OUR ROADS

I thank and congratulate Transportation Secretary Arthur Tugade on clearly and masterfully assuring the Filipino people last night during the IATF meeting with President Rodrigo Roa Duterte presiding.

Notable is the DOTr aggressive promotion of biking as a viable and sustainable means of personal mobility for millions of people, starting at EDSA and with a vision toward propagation nationwide.

Time has come for drivers of motor vehicles in the Philippines to respect and give way to bikers on EDSA and other roads. Extra care must be taken to prevent road mishaps involving bicycles and motor vehicles. I am certain Secretary Tugade and his people at DOTr know what must be done.

I laud the decision of the DOTr to spread out the international air traffic workload of the NAIA to other international airports, starting with the airports in Clark, Cebu, and Davao, and then later to other airports.

I expressed a similar approach some weeks ago when it was becoming clear that airports will eventually reopen and flights resume under the so-called "New Normal" conditions.

Most probably, there are some international civil aviation standards that our country’s other airports must meet to be able to handle landing and take-off of international flights.

Secretary Tugade has our support for the gradual and phased upgrading of our international airports to get them ready for the eventual resumption of global air travel in the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic. (END)
