ATTY. GARBIN TO NEW BAR PASSERS: SERVE YOUR COMMUNITIES WITH TRUTH AND LAWS

Congratulations to all who passed last year’s bar exams, the results of which are revealed today online.

Our call to action to the new lawyers is SERVE YOUR COMMUNITIES.

Let the truth and laws shall be your armor and lance, not just for the greater good or the common good, but for the good of every citizen, more so, for those who cannot defend themselves, the downtrodden, the abused, the maligned, and most especially the innocent.

Serve your neighbors with compassion. Understand their circumstances. Seek help because chances are legal woes are but the tip of the iceberg of their crisis. Listen and do so with ears and your heart.

I also take this opportunity to ask the Supreme Court to enjoin this and future batches of new lawyers to perform community service.

There is an urgent need now for the barangay tanods and the local police field units to learn the basics of human rights, due process, criminal law, and criminal procedure.

There simply have been too many incidents of questionable law enforcement spreading like a contagious virus. These incidents can no longer be considered isolated. These are just the situations brought out into the light of day as social media posts.

Justice delayed is justice denied. The same goes for relief goods and cash aid promised, funded, but delayed in some cities and towns. There is valid cause to worry because the insidious crimes often happen when nobody is looking, hidden behind illusions, away from prying eyes under the cover of darkness and lies. (END)
