Higit dalawang buwan nang di pinapayagang pumasada ng IATF ang jeepney drivers. Hahayaan na lang ba silang patuloy na magutom?

If the authorities are adamant against regular operations of public transportation buses and jeepneys and UV express (sometimes called FX), THEY MUST OFFER ALTERNATIVES such as MMDA-DOTr supervised P2P. DOTr and MMDA should supervise.

Some or all PUJs and UV express units could be mobilized for cargo transport of companies allowed to operate. PUJs can do cargo transport for hire and transport of relief goods and equipment.

I appeal to Grab and the other TNCs to take the PUJs and FX drivers under their wing as cargo transporters.

The FX units could also serve as health care frontliners transporters.

But when the IATF and DOTr allow the FX and PUJ units to carry passengers, the drivers and passengers must wear face masks and there must be physical barriers within the FX units.

Physical distancing must be strictly enforced.

As regards fare payment, the most preferable is contactless means like electronic cash payments. Passengers must learn to pay their exact fare to eliminate any need for unnecessary contact during their commute.

I am not in favor of collecting handwritten passenger manifests for PUJs, PUBs, and tricycles. The names and contact details of passengers can easily fall into the wrong hands of people like stalkers and identity thieves. I believe, it is the passenger who should list down the plate numbers of any motor vehicle he or she uses, since it is his or her personal safety that is at stake. (END)
