8 STANDARDS FOR EVACUATION CENTERS TO PREVENT COVID-19 SPREAD

The spread of COVID-19 in evacuation centers can be prevented with the implementation of eight standards or goals, according to KABAYAN Party-list Rep. Ron Salo.

Salo proposed the eight standards in House Resolution 874 that he filed.

The standards the congressman wants instituted are the following:

  1. Optimize the capacity of evacuation centers following the appropriate Department of Health (DOH) guidelines, including social distancing;

  2. Ensure the provision of adequate food supply and equipment during the duration of evacuation;

  3. Ensure the provision of clean toilet, handwashing facilities, and potable water supply, among others;

  4. Undertake regular disinfection and proper waste collection and management in the premises;

  5. Ensure the presence of properly equipped medical personnel in evacuation areas to regularly check the evacuees for possible symptoms of COVID-19 and other diseases;

  6. Ensure the provision of personal protective equipment to the responders and health personnel;

  7. Adopt appropriate entrance and exit scheme to control the movement of people; and

  8. Arrange contactless distribution of food packs, hygiene kits, and other essential goods.

Salo said these standards must update current protocols because the old procedures were prior to COVID-19.

(END)
